A Word of Caution Regarding Discussions

Postby Mama » Sun Jun 01, 2008 10:16 pm

This forum is for titles that are for the 18+ crowd and include a range of titles from the 16+ marketed "Blade of the Immortal" (contains severe graphic violence and mature themes) to the epitome of Hentai "Urotsukidouji (Legend of the Overfiend)" which is nothing but adult content.

HOWEVER, please keep in mind that while I include this section for the adult readers of manga and comics, anyone is able to peruse this forum. Refrain from using graphic details, expletives (including any that might be translated into the title), and any degrading remarks. There are many other adult titles that are worth mentioning such as Rumiko Takahashi's "Mermaid Forest" and her "Anthalogy." While there may not be anything there to warrant an R-rating, they are still stories aimed at adults (think "Bridget Jones' Diary" or "Jurassic Park") but younger people read it.

Please respect the family-centered theme of this site and post accordingly!

What would you consider "severe graphic violence"?
If a=b and b=c then a=c... So if Vocaloid=Music and Music=Love then obviously Vocaloid must = Love!

Well, let's see. inappropriate is in the eye of the beholder, but picture "Kill Bill" in manga form, and I think that would be a great example of "sever graphic violence" >_< Basically, if there is a lot of depiction of blood, or close detail given to a scene of violence, that would make it too graphic for a minor.

What about like in Naruto, when Gaara is squishing people with sand, I dont find it disturbing but I think the manga has lotsa blood? Is that fine? Just not like... overly mass amounts? Say... Elfen Lied. Thats pretty horrible.

Yes, you have the idea! Elfen Lied is a story about revenge (among other themes), with quite a few depictions of violent behavior that would not be suitable for a minor.

As for Naruto, that brings up an entirely different discussion on appropriate age. The violence is tame enough for a middle-schooler and older because for the most part, adolescents can tell the difference not only between reality and fantasy, but also between what's possible and what isn't. A seven-year-old child, for example, may understand that the story is not real, but may not understand that what the characters do in the story are not real (When a regular person gets the kind of beat-down Naruto experiences just in practices, critical injuries resulting in death would occur...there's no getting up again to fight another day). But a 13-year-old would know that (should know that) one cannot do backflips out of a 20-foot tree without avoiding injury.

LOL, not unless you are good friends with John Woo and he has an army of stage hands hooking you up to the wires attached to said 20-foot tree!

Pfft, I have enough chakra stored up in my feet to propell me 30 ft in the air. Besides, I'm a soul reaper. You may know me as Kaito, but I am secretly Byakuya Kuchiki.
